Christmas Compositions

Christmas arrangements combine flowers, fir branches, pine cones and festive décor to create a holiday mood at home. Unlike a bouquet, an arrangement simply stands on its own and needs no vase.

What Christmas arrangements are made of

The base is usually natural spruce, pine or silver fir branches. They are combined with fresh flowers — roses, carnations, chrysanthemums — and decorative elements: pine cones, cinnamon sticks, dried orange slices, candles and festive ribbons.

Arrangements with silver fir last the longest — its needles do not fall even in a warm room. This matters if the arrangement will stay on the table throughout the holiday season.

Where to place a Christmas arrangement

Most often an arrangement is placed on the festive table, a windowsill or in the hallway. Lower, flatter arrangements suit the dining table — they do not block the view of the people sitting opposite. Taller ones look better on a chest of drawers or a windowsill.

How to care for it

The base of an arrangement is usually floral foam that needs watering — adding a little water every 2–3 days is enough. Keep the arrangement away from radiators: heat makes flowers wilt faster. If the arrangement includes candles, never leave them burning unattended.
